Domestic Violence/Family Law: We offer free legal help in family law cases involving domestic or intimate partner violence. We help survivors obtain an injunction for protection, also known as a restraining order, to stop further contact and violence from the abuser. There are no income or asset restrictions for survivors seeking this kind of help in Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union Counties – everyone is eligible as long as they live in these counties or have a referral from the legal services agency in their own community. The services of one of our attorneys or a volunteer, pro bono lawyer providing legal help for domestic violence victims are free.

Housing/Landlord Tenant: At Three Rivers, helping families obtain and keep basic shelter is very important. Much of our free legal assistance involves helping persons facing eviction or homeownership issues.

Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic: We can give free legal help when the IRS threatens to take your home or garnish your wages, when someone has used your identity to file a fake return, or when the IRS audits you.

Preserving Home Ownership: When a landowner/homeowner dies without a will, the state decides who inherits the land. It is hard to get loans, grants, and government assistance without clear title.

Veterans Issues: Three Rivers is ready with free legal help for veterans with housing, income, disability, and with some family law cases.

Foreclosure Defense: When faced with foreclosure it is important to seek legal help right away. A TRLS attorney will work with you to see if there is a way to save your home. They may be able to help you file a response to the foreclosure complaint, assist in the completion of the paperwork to apply for a loan modification, or negotiate an exit with dignity in the form of a short sale, or cash for keys. We can also help with foreclosures arising from reverse mortgages.

Elder Law/Life Planning: Cases involving abuse, exploitation and neglect of an older person are our top priority. We provide free legal help to senior citizens with health care issues, simple wills, and powers of attorney.
