North Florida Water Utility Authority Budget Planning Underway
Lake City, FL – Executive Director Shannon Roberts presented the preliminary budget for the North Florida Water Utility Authority, outlining plans for the organization to begin operating water and sewer plants in both Columbia and Suwannee counties starting October 1.
The proposed budget requests $526,000 from each participating county to help bridge the gap between operational expenses and revenue generated by the utility systems. Roberts explained that the funding request was calculated by analyzing the actual expenses and revenues from 2024 operations.
The utility authority will manage seven different facilities across both counties, taking over operations from individual county utility departments. Roberts emphasized that the budget was developed conservatively, using actual expenses rather than projected budgets to ensure realistic planning.
